  • Basilica di San Marco

    The Basilica di San Marco it is one of the most important monuments of catholicism, called also as “Gold Church” because it houses the San Marco's Treasure. The first building dates back to 832 AD. The Basilica is decorated by mosaics of Byzantine, Gothic, Greek and Renaissance style and by sculptures and architectural elements from many different places in the world. The four bronze horses placed above the central portal are very famous, they say their origin is Costantinople.

  • Teatro La Fenice

    The Great Theater La Fenice.
    This marvellous theater is walking distance from Piazza San Marco and it is one of the most important opera houses in the world. The tender for the construction of the theater was launched on 1789. Giannantonio Selva won the tender and the theater was inaugurated on 1792 with the name of “Gran Teatro La Fenice”. It was destroyed by fire in 1836 ( due to a malfunctioning stove ) but only in a year, thanks to the work of two engineers Tommaso and Giovan Battista Meduna, it was rebuilt. However another terrible fire ( this time malicious ) destroyed the theater on 1996. It saw the light again only on 2003.   • Scala Contarini del Bovolo

    Palace Contarini, it is a palace of the venetian family Contarini. In the second half of the XV century the palace was equipped with this monumental spiral staircase. In the venetian language it is called “scala del bovolo” ( bovolo is the venetian name for sea snails ). This marvellous staircase was made by the venetian architect Giovanni Candi and it is of refined Renaissance style. You can visit it all the year from 10 am to 6 pm.

  • Ponte dei Sospiri

    It was built with baroque style in the early 1600s on the project by the architect Antonio Contin. This bridge was the passage that connected the prisons to the offices of the inquisitors.

  • Biblioteca Marciana

    One of the most largest and important italian libraries, it houses the world most precious collection of greek, latin and eastern manuscripts. The library was born by an idea and the personal collection of Francesco Petrarca, the building was completed in 1588. The library houses works from Tiziano, Veronese, Vittoria, Franco, Porta, Ammannati, Demio, Tintoretto.

  • Ponte di Rialto

    The Rialto ( literally: high shore ) neighborhood is the most ancient of the town of Venezia and it takes its name because of the proximity to the Gran Canal which was the deepest of the lagoon. It was officially established that the foundation date of Rialto is march 25 421 A.D., when the church of San Giacometo was consecrated. Here it rises the famous Rialto's Bridge built on 1591 in place of the pontoon bridge, and the wooden bridge. The Rialto's Bridge was built thanks to a public tender in which they participated Sansovino, Palladio, Barozzi, Scamozzi, Da Ponte. The project by Da Ponte was chosen because it had single arch.

    It is a special green area in the heart of San Marco. The Royal Gardens were an idea by Napoleon on 1806 to replace public terranova's granaries. The granaries were razed to the ground. The Royal Gardens have recently been restored and they offer a relaxing time between one visit and another. They are perfect to have an ice cream or a coffe at the Illy bar near there.

  • Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute

    It was erected at the Punta della Dogana di Venezia at the end of the Gran Canal. It is a great example of baroque architecture. The Basilica is a venetian ex voto to the Madonna tankful for the end of the pestilence that decimated the population between 1630 and 1631. The project was entrusted to the architect Baldassarre Longhena and was completed on 1687. Every 21 november venetians celebrate the feast of the Madonna della Salute.
